Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal
Serves: 2
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 2 cups almond milk (or any milk of your choice)
- 1 large apple, diced (use a sweet variety like Fuji or Gala)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup (or honey, if preferred)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional, for added texture and nutrients)
- Toppings (optional): chopped nuts, dried fruit, fresh apple slices, or extra drizzle of maple syrup
Instructions
Prepare the Oats:
In a medium saucepan, combine the oats, almond milk, and a pinch of salt. Stir and bring to a simmer over medium heat. Once it begins to simmer, reduce the heat to low and let the oats cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.Add the Apple & Cinnamon:
While the oats are cooking, dice your apple into small pieces. Once the oats start to thicken, add the diced apple, cinnamon, maple syrup, and vanilla extract to the pot. Stir everything together and let it cook for another 3–5 minutes, until the oats are soft and the apples have started to soften but still hold their shape.Add Chia Seeds (Optional):
If you’re using chia seeds, stir them in during the last minute of cooking. They will help thicken the oatmeal further and add some extra nutrients, including fiber and omega-3 fatty acids.Serve & Top:
Once the oatmeal reaches your desired consistency, remove from the heat. Serve it in bowls, and top with any additional toppings you like—chopped nuts, fresh apple slices, a sprinkle of cinnamon, or a little extra maple syrup for added sweetness.
Helpful Notes:
- Oats Texture: If you prefer a creamier oatmeal, you can add more milk (or water) to thin it out. If you like it thicker, let it cook a bit longer and reduce the liquid.
- Sweetness: Feel free to adjust the sweetness with more maple syrup or honey depending on your preference. The apples will add some natural sweetness, but extra sweetener can elevate the flavor.
- Fruit Variations: Try swapping the apples for other fruits like pears, bananas, or berries for a different spin on this classic oatmeal.
This apple cinnamon oatmeal is like a warm hug in a bowl, and it’s the perfect way to start your day. The apples offer a natural sweetness, while the cinnamon brings a fragrant warmth that pairs beautifully with the creamy oats. Plus, the toppings are a fun way to customize it to your own taste!
